What is Low Level Laser Therapy?

Low Level Laser therapy is the use of low intensity photonic energy as a treatment modality. Photons are the unit measurement of light therefore the lasers use light at a low level healing frequencies.

How does Low Level Laser (3LT™) work?

Photonic stimuli excite the body’s cells infusing them with energy, with the three primary reactions being, reduction of inflammation, cell regeneration, and increased blood flow (circulation). Lasers penetrate the body into the cells and excite the mitochondria (the cells “powerhouse” where 90% of the energy you use is derived) therefore creating “good” energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine-triphosphate) that promotes healing, circulation and rebuilding of the soft tissue and bone in the body.

How deep into the tissue can laser light penetrate?

The lasers penetrate the photonic energy deep therefore creating significant physiologic changes. The depth of penetration is dependent on multiple factors including mass and density, however since low level laser has been proven in clinical study to effect subcutaneous cells; the point is low level laser, does penetrate; as opposed to the heat lamp devices that do not.

Is Low Level Laser Therapy painful?

No, our office has never had a patient report any negative sensation. Most people do not feel anything, for those that have reported a feeling; it is nothing more than a slight sensation of tingling.

The Low Level LaserComb® and Laser Photo Therapy Mechanisms of Action

Although hundreds of clinical papers have been written about the positive attributes of low level laser therapy, research is taking place on an ongoing basis to identify the exact mechanism of action of the Low Level LaserComb. Users and clinical trial subjects have observed hair growth and hair cycle changes that are related to Low Level LaserComb PhotoTherapy properties. Therefore, the following hypotheses have been formed that attempt to explain the method of action of the Low Level LaserComb.

The laser light of the Low Level LaserComb penetrates the scalp and hair follicles in a consistent manner via its patented hair parting teeth system. The teeth of the Low Level LaserComb part the hair to allow for precision delivery of laser light to all areas of the scalp and an unobstructed path to the hair follicle. Without the patented hair parting teeth, as much as 90% of the laser light energy can be blocked by the hair. Remember, the treatment is most effective when the laser path is unobstructed.

Anagen Induction and Accelerated Hair Growth

It is hypothesized that Laser PhotoTherapy applied to the scalp directly affects the hair follicle by Photo-Bio Stimulation leading to Anagen Induction. This process, in which the laser light bathes the scalp and follicular cells, causes an increase in ATP and Keratin Production and the stimulation of hair growth.

The Low Level LaserComb, Laser Light & The Hair Follicle

It is further hypothesized that the laser light of the Low Level LaserComb causes cell proliferation in the epithelia of the hair follicle marked by thicker hair growth and an increase in shedding of Catagen hairs at the onset of treatment. Since the dermal papilla consists of certain fibroblasts and specialized matrix cells at the base of the hair follicle, the laser light of the Low Level LaserComb apparently interacts with these cells causing cell proliferation. In support of this assumption are consistent user reports of shedding at the onset of treatment and clinical trial results demonstrating distinct terminalization of hairs formerly in the vellus phase.

How does LED Hair Regrowth work?
PDT/LED soft laser hair regrowth therapy is the interaction of light (laser), delivered through Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), to activate cell receptors causing them to produce collagen or multiply. LEDs offer a totally natural, non-ablative method for hair care and hair growth. PDT soft laser therapy device contains 1280 individual laser modules (1260 medical SMD LED numbers) at a wave length of 655nm (+/- 5nm).

The PDT soft laser provides stimulating laser energy in what we believe is a two fold approach to energize the weakened follicle. The hypothesis behind the PDT soft laser’s success combines increased vascularization and an increase in cellular metabolism.
